Terms of Service

Last updated: 8 October 2026

1. About these terms

Benchd is a trading name of OWN Capital Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 16610833, with its registered office at Dulke House, London, E14 0XF ("Benchd", "we", "us", "our").

These terms apply when you visit benchd.co.uk, join our beta, or create and use a Benchd account. By creating an account you agree to them. Please read them alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your personal information.

You can contact us at hello@benchd.co.uk.

2. What Benchd is

Benchd is an AI-powered interview practice tool for commercial roles in hospitality technology. You add your CV and the job description you’re targeting, choose a role and seniority, take a spoken mock interview with an AI interviewer, and receive a scorecard and feedback.

Benchd is for your own preparation. We are not an employer, recruitment agency or careers adviser. We don’t put you forward for jobs or share your results with employers, and using Benchd doesn’t guarantee you an interview, an offer or any particular outcome.

3. Who can use Benchd

You must be 18 or over to create an account. When you use Benchd, you agree to:

  • give accurate information about yourself;
  • keep only one account, for your own use;
  • keep your login details secure and not share them; and
  • tell us promptly at hello@benchd.co.uk if you think someone else has accessed your account.

4. Beta and pricing

Benchd is currently in beta and free to use. During the beta, features may change, be limited or be withdrawn, and the service may sometimes be unavailable.

If we introduce paid features in future, we’ll tell you in advance. You will never be charged unless you have actively agreed to pay.

5. AI-generated feedback

Interview questions, follow-ups, scores and feedback on Benchd are generated by AI. AI output can be inaccurate, inconsistent or incomplete, and two similar answers may not always receive identical scores.

Your scorecard is practice guidance. It is not a formal assessment of your abilities and doesn’t predict how a real interviewer will judge you. Any comparisons with other candidates are based on early, limited data. Please use your own judgement and don’t rely on Benchd as the only basis for career decisions.

6. Your content

You own the CVs, job descriptions, answers, transcripts and other material you provide ("your content").

You give us permission to store and use your content only as needed to:

  • run Benchd for you, including generating your interviews, transcripts and feedback;
  • keep the service secure and fix problems;
  • improve our interview questions and scoring, as described in our Privacy Policy; and
  • comply with the law.

We may also create anonymised, aggregated statistics from use of Benchd, such as average scores by role and seniority. These statistics don’t identify you, and we own them.

You confirm that you have the right to upload everything you upload. Please don’t upload other people’s personal information, or confidential information from an employer that you aren’t permitted to share. Publicly advertised job descriptions are fine.

7. Acceptable use

You must not use Benchd to:

  • generate or feed you answers during a real, live interview;
  • impersonate someone else or use another person’s CV;
  • upload anything unlawful, abusive, defamatory or malicious, including viruses or harmful code;
  • access other users’ accounts or data, or test, probe or get around our security;
  • scrape, copy, reverse engineer or extract our questions, prompts, scoring or software, or use them to build a competing product;
  • run interviews through automated scripts or bots, or overload the service; or
  • try to make the AI interviewer produce harmful, offensive or unlawful content.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules.

8. Our content

The Benchd platform, including our software, question bank, interviewer design, scoring framework, reports, design and brand, belongs to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use Benchd for your own interview preparation.

You’re welcome to keep, download and share your own reports.

9. Availability and changes to Benchd

We work to keep Benchd running smoothly, but we can’t guarantee it will always be available or error-free, especially during the beta. We may change, add or remove features. Where a change significantly affects you, we’ll give you reasonable notice where we can.

10. Ending your use of Benchd

You can stop using Benchd at any time and delete your account in the app, or by emailing privacy@benchd.co.uk. What happens to your data when you do is explained in our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if needed for security or legal reasons, or if we stop offering Benchd. Unless the law or a security risk prevents it, we’ll tell you why. If we close Benchd altogether, we’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice so you can download your reports.

11. Our responsibility to you

We provide Benchd with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can’t be limited or excluded by law. These terms don’t affect your legal rights as a consumer.

Subject to that:

  • we aren’t responsible for losses that weren’t reasonably foreseeable when you started using Benchd;
  • we aren’t responsible for the outcome of any job application, interview or hiring decision; and
  • because Benchd is currently free, our total liability to you is limited to £100.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you by email or in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect. If you don’t agree with the change, you can delete your account before then.

13. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you have a dispute with us, you can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.

If something has gone wrong, please contact us first at hello@benchd.co.uk and we’ll try to resolve it.
